FOREMAN/CREW MANAGER
Forestry foremen, or crew managers, lead crews of harvesting and silvicultural workers. This is a critical operational role. Work could include:
- planning daily operations in conjunction with forest/harvesting managers
- leading, motivating and supervising teams and individuals
- organising training
- on-site health and safety management
- dealing with day-to-day problems such as machinery breakdowns.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Most crew foremen will be qualified to NZQA Level 4 or above, and be highly experienced in a range of forestry operations. The role requires good leadership and decision-making skills, willingness to take responsibility for day-to-day operations, good communications skills and an interest in people.
Crew foremen generally still work as part of harvesting and silvicultural teams, but regularly spend time on administration and staff management.
