FORESTRY – A LEADING CONTRIBUTOR
TO OUR ECONOMY
Forestry is a large export earner, behind dairy and now ahead of meat.
OUR EXPORTS GO AROUND THE WORLD
Our timber products are exported to more than a dozen countries around the world. Most goes to China, with Australia the second most popular destination. The Republic of Korea, Japan and India are also major markets.
In total, all timber products earned $6.38 billion export dollars in the 2017/18 year, and that will grow to $6.6 billion in the year to June 2019.
A large proportion of our timber production is used in New Zealand.
