TRAINING IN
GISBORNE/EAST COAST
THE GENERATION PROGRAMME – ENTRY-LEVEL TRAINING
The Tairāwhiti region supports, the ‘Generation Programme’, an entry level training programme run by Tūranga Ararau in Gisborne since 2018. It is mainly for people new to the industry, either school leavers or people seeking a career in forestry. You may also be eligible if you are returning to the forest industry after a break.
This course comprises a ‘base-camp’ of six weeks and trains basic forestry skills and work-readiness. At the completion of this part of the course trainees will have the skills and knowledge and fitness and aptitude needed to start work.
Trainees will then be assisted into employment with forestry contractors and supported and mentored for their first year of full-time employment, where they complete Level 3 qualifications.
Training is also provided for trainees to achieve their Drivers’ Licence, ATV skills, Workplace First aid and training in ‘Wheels, Tracks and Rollers’
Training is led by Tūranga Ararau at their Gisborne centre.
Course costs
The course is fees- free, assistance is given with other costs and all PPE is provided.
